American Athletic Conference, Boise State Lawsuits Dropped

The American Athletic Conference and Boise State University reached an agreement today dismissing all claims between the parties.

The Broncos joined the Big East Conference – now the AAC – in December 2011, but elected to remain in the Mountain West Conference once several cornerstone teams elected to leave the Big East for other conferences. A formality of returning to the MWC was Boise State being on the hook for the $5 million exit fee for leaving the conference they never officially joined.

Boise State sued the Big East to have its penalty eradicated, citing that certain agreements were not met due to the major changes in the league including the rebranding of the conference name.

The Big East filed a counter-claim against the Broncos for the $5 million exit fee.  The conference stated that Boise State used the Big East as leverage to negotiate potential deals with the Mountain West, and that Boise State negotiated its own television deal separate from the league.
