Big Time Wide Receiver Khalil Shakir Goes Blue

Boise State dipped into California on Monday and pulled out a highly-ranked three-star Wide Receiver recruit with offers from five Pac-12 schools, one ACC school, and one B1G school (according to

“Thank you to all the coaches who have recruited me throughout this process.  Definitely a big decision, figuring out where I want to go but I am very comfortable with this and I am exited to say that I have committed to Boise State University.  (Shout out) to all the (Boise State) coaches for an amazing official visit this weekend!… I can’t wait to be a Bronco! Bleed Blue!”

Khalil Shakir and I got in touch last night and he told me he feels great about his decision.

“I got a ton of weight off my shoulders and I know I made the right decision.”

Boise State’s newest commit said knowing Boise State Head Coach Bryan Harsin was a great coach helped him with his choice of his new school, “I’m lucky he’s my future coach.”

The three-star athlete was primarily sought after by Bronco Wide Receiver Coach Eric Kiesau and Director of Recruiting/Player Personnel Darren Uscher.  “This is only the start of good relationships with the whole coaching staff,” he said.

Shakir is hoping to turn the collective-heads of Bronco Nation.

“I think when I have the ball in my hands I do very special things in (the) open field!”

He hopes to remind Boise State fans of current Bronco-Wide Receiver Cedrick Wilson when he gets in space, saying, “that dude is a beast!”

Shakir also tries to model his game after Atlanta Falcons All-World Wide Receiver Julio Jones.  “He has great hands, and (overall is) an amazing player.”

When I asked Shakir what his team goals were for his time in Boise he laughed and had a very-blunt answer:  “Win that natty!!!”

He wants to come into Boise and make an impact on the team from the jump, earning playing time early in his career.

“Boise, in general, was great place! The vibe I got from it, it just felt like home! (They were) just different (from) the Pac12 schools that recruited me. The love they showed was real and they were consistent with it.”

Shakir said his friends and family were “hyped” for him after he made his decision to commit to the Broncos.  “(I) just can’t wait to get there and make them proud!”
