Broncos drop season finale to Air Force

Boise State could not overcome a 14-point deficit and dropped their season finale 27-20 to Air Force.

The loss ends the Bronco’s chances at earning a berth to the Mountain West Championship and a potential trip to the Cotton Bowl. The loss is the third-straight to the Falcons the last three seasons.

Boise State started the game with a 60-yard drive to go up 7-0 on a McNichols 4-yard touchdown run.

Air Force answered immediately by tying up the game on the ensuing drive. The Bronco’s next three drives all ended in punts with the third being blocked and returned for a touchdown by the Falcons.

The Broncos ended the first half with a field goal after driving the length of the field thanks to a Leighton Vander Esch interception.

After a field goal in the third quarter, the Broncos were able to strike with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Cedrick Wilson.

Unfortunately, the nail in the coffin for the Broncos was a game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter that was stopped on the goal line by a commanding Air Force defensive front.

With a first-and-goal on the 4-yard line,McNichols was stopped three times and quarterback Brett Rypien came up short from the 1-yard line.

The Broncos will finish the season with a 10-2 record and have to wait until December 4th to see what bowl they have been selected to.

Many think the Las Vegas Bowl is in play, as is the Cactus Bowl in Phoenix.

Boise State will finish the regular season with a 3000-yard passer (Rypien), a 1000-yard rusher (McNichols), and two 1000-yard receivers (Sperbeck and Wilson).
