James Webb III had 28 points, Anthony Drimic added 21 points, and Boise State (10-4, 1-0) opened up Mountain West play for 2016 with a 84-80 win against a very stingy Colorado State (8-6, 0-1) team.
Mikey Thompson would also impress with 18 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds. This proved to be pivotal as Nick Duncan struggled tonight fouling out and getting no points.
What seemed like a cruise for the Broncos in the first half turned out to be a tough conference battle against the Rams. The Broncos had a lead that was as big as 16 points at one point. But a slow start to the second half along with hot three point shooting in the second half from the Rams put many Bronco fans on the edge of their seats.
If this game is any indication of what is to come in Mountain West play this season, then it’s going to be important for Boise State to be ready to play each night. Certainly there are some things that need to be cleaned up and addressed, but for tonight Boise State can feel good about getting off on the right foot in conference play.
This latest win extends the Broncos home win streak to 16 and current win streak to 7.
Boise State will continue Mountain West play on Tuesday night on the road in Logan, Utah against Utah State (9-3, 1-0). Tip off is set for 8pm.
