Hedrick’s New Look – Can the trend continue?

Love/hate is the best way to describe Bronco Nation’s feelings toward QB Grant Hedrick. While the embattled QB has had some great moments on the field, he has also had some not so great moments. The last three games have had Bronco fans praising his performance. Overall, Hedrick is looking a lot more complete than he did in his first 5 games this season.

Hedrick’s first five games accumulated 1,295 yards, a 69.4% completion rate, 5 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and an average rating of 135.7. In Hedrick’s last two of the first five games he failed to throw any touchdowns,  and threw 4 of his 9 interceptions in an embarrassing loss to the Air Force Academy. The 14 points scored by the Broncos in the Air Force game came at the arm of freshman QB Ryan Finley who saw his most playing time this season in that game.

Hedrick’s loss to Air Force must have made a significant impact as he led Boise State to a thrilling 51-46 victory over conference rival Nevada one week later. Two weeks after that, Hedrick steps onto the field again to complete 70% of his passes and give Boise State the victory over another conference rival in Fresno State. Then comes the senior QB’s best game yet against BYU. Hedrick throws a season high 410 yards after completing 24 of his 31 passes for a 77.4% completion rate, 4 touchdowns, and a rating of 224.6.
