Joel Velazquez kick is good, commits to Boise State

Trabuco Hills High School kicker/punter Joel Velazquez will be joining the Boise State football in the summer of 2016.

The 6-foot-1, 225 pound senior out of Mission Viejo, CA announced his commitment to the Broncos back in early November and has stayed the course throughout the coaching carousel.

Velazquez booted 41 of 54 kickoffs for touchbacks and averaged 39.4 yards per punt, according to MaxPreps. He also went 6-for-9 in field goals, scoring a total of 53 points.

Velazquez will likely battle RS Senior Tyler Rausa for a starting spot. Rausa, a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, was named to the All-Mountain West First Team in 2015.

Velazquez boasts a 3.85 GPA and was highly rated in the National Camp Series.
