Report: Boise State Hoops loses G Malek Harwell to injury

The Boise State basketball team has lost one of their most talented incoming freshman to injury, according to Dave Southorn of the Idaho Statesman who first reported the news.

Century High School graduate (Pocatello, Idaho) Malek Harwell tore his ACL earlier this week, and will not be playing during the 2015-16 season, and will redshirt.

Harwell was a highly recruited player with offers from Colorado, Idaho State, Loyola Marymount, San Francisco, Toledo and Utah State, but ultimately stayed in-state to play for the Broncos.

I had projected Harwell to redshirt this season before guard Dezmyn Trent was dismissed by the team after his involvement in a drive by shooting back in August.

Harwell was expected to have a small role this season after the incident; his role now becomes huge in 2016-17 season after the departure of Anthony Drmic and Mikey Thompson.

Boise State’s season starts November 6th against NAIA school Northwest University in a exhibition game.
